Relaxation

There are two different ways to relax:

Relaxation
  1. Directly from tension to relaxation by taking it easyto breathe, meditation, evoke a pleasant feeling, smile, calm music, tenderness, singing in church, stretching, warm bath, etc.

  2. Indirectly through effort: for example, exercising fanatically, shouting, singing loudly, crying, laughing, sex, expressive dancing, or very fanatically cleaning the kitchen.

If you notice that the direct method does not work, there are probably too many stress hormones flowing through your body. then a discharge is first necessary (physical and/or emotional).

Examples from the animal world:

  • A rabbit will release too much tension by stomping very hard with its paw.

  • A dog shakes to discharge. Take a look at the'shake it' excercise.

“The right time to relax is when you don't have time for it.”

Sydney J. Harris

“Keep silent more often, speak less, and silence will reign in your soul, and your spirit will be calm and peaceful.” unknown

Practical tips and links:

  • Most people cannot concentrate for more than 50 minutes at a time. This is not without reason, the body needs to be reset every now and then. Instead of drinking coffee to stay awake, give yourself a 5-minute break every hour. In which you prefer to close your eyes and breathe calmly (or jump rope). This does not take time, it actually saves time. It will improve your productivity!

  • Perform certain actions/activities with 10% less tension, or 10% slower or 10% smoother.

  • Conclude your work or a particular task with an emphatic 'it's done'. That can help you really feel ready and open the way for relaxation.
