Healthy food

Feed yourself with love, be aware and enjoy, but not too much.

Choose healthy and fresh, unprocessed products.

There are few topics on which there is as much difference of opinion as nutrition. Everyone agrees that a healthy diet is very important for good health. But what exactly constitutes a healthy diet is not always clear. We mainly want to focus here on information about which there is a lot of agreement.

Healthy food

Our body needs sufficient proteins, fats and fibers to be optimally healthy. These nutrients are mainly found in nuts, seeds, kernels, fish, meat, eggs, vegetables, fruit and mushrooms. The refined carbohydrate sources such as bread, pasta and rice are not essential as they mainly function as an energy source and energy can also be obtained from other sources such as fat.

In addition, we need many minerals and vitamins that can mainly be found in the mentioned sources. To get enough vitamins and minerals, variation is essential and excluding certain nutritional sources (e.g. veganism) can actually create a deficiency if this is not compensated with, for example, a supplement.

A healthy diet mainly consists of lots of fresh, unprocessed vegetables. As few added substances as possible in the form of flavors and colorings. If you eat meat, preferably only 'organic'. And preferably as little (added) sugars and alcohol as possible.

“If man makes it, don't eat it” (John Bergman)

Fruit

In the past, they mainly ate fruit that was not yet ripe (otherwise the animals would have beaten them to it): lots of vitamins, little fructose. (over)ripe fruit contains a lot of sugars. They ate fruit mainly in autumn: good  build up a fat layer for the winter. That was useful then, but not anymore.

It is good to eat fruit for the vitamins, but preferably just under ripe and the least sweet fruit. Now fruit is modified so that it is extra sweet.

"It's not just "you are what you eat." It's also, you are what you eat ate."

Practical tips and links:

  • If you value a healthy body, nourish it with valuable food.

  • Wash fruits and vegetables (if non-organic) with a vinegar solution to remove the pesticides. One part vinegar to 4 parts water, leave the vegetables/fruit in it for 2-5 minutes and then rinse with water.

  • Most important E-substances to avoid:

    • E621 to E625  - flavor enhancers  by promoting glutamate production, this leads to a more sensitive nervous system. This can increase pain

    • E433 and E466 - emulsifiers - damage the intestinal wall, resulting in diseases

    • E951 - aspertame (in almost all 'light' products) - toxic and carcinogenic and, although they contain no calories, still lead to weight gain. The body is fooled by the sweet taste, causing insulin to be produced, which leads to deposits.
